Rosemarie T. Stanek of Tucson, Arizona died Thursday, February 29, 2024, at her home in Sherwood Village Assisted Living in Tucson. She was born August 2, 1926, in New York City, New York and lived in New Jersey most of her life. Before retiring to Oro Valley, Arizona in 1989, Rosemarie resided in Fairfield, New Jersey for approximately 10 years. Rosemarie is predeceased by her Loving Husband, John Leon Stanek, Jr., her Father Herbert Franklin Leidig, her Mother Anna Marie Leidig, her Brother Herbert Leidig, and her Beloved Granddaughter
Kimberly Ann McCartney. She is survived by her Brother Richard A. Leidig, her three Children John L. Stanek III (Barbara); Richard Thomas Stanek (Nancy), and Barbara Ann McCartney (Michael Patrick, Sr.), and her Grandchildren John Leon Stanek IV (Katya), Richard Stanek, Michael Patrick McCartney, Jr. (Courtnie), Lisa Stanek (Raj), Kimberly’s Fiancé of 25 years, Eric Peters, and her Great Grandchildren Andrew James McCartney and Delaney Áine McCartney.
Rosemarie graduated from St. Vincent Academy, Newark, New Jersey. She was
employed as a Telephone Switchboard Operator for New York Bell Telephone Co., Newburg, NY and New Jersey Bell Telephone Co., Irvington, NJ. Before retiring to Arizona, Rosemarie was a longtime employee as an Executive Assistant at Supermatic Pkg. Machinery, Inc. in Fairfield, New Jersey.
When Rosemarie was just 16, during WWII, she volunteered to go into the Civil Air Patrol where she learned how to fly a Piper Cub Airplane. Rosemarie flew Officers to their destinations and she also parachuted as one of her requirements.
She became a Den Mother, Pack 208, Irvington, NJ, for the Boy Scouts of America when her sons were cub scouts, which job she thoroughly enjoyed.
Rosemarie was so happy and proud of living in Tucson and could not wait until friends and family visited so she could take them to all her favorite Tourist locations, i.e., Mount Lemon, Old Tucson, the San Xavier Mission, Tombstone, Grand Canyon, Pima Air Museum, Missile Silos, Rocky Point, and many more.
Rosemarie loved Western movies and TV shows, and she had fond memories of working at Old Tucson Studios.
Rosemarie stated: “Never forget God and the power of prayer.” She said that God never let her down when she prayed to him. “God is Love and that He is always with you.”
Rosemarie had a very long, happy, full, rich life, and she was loved by everyone. She was beautiful inside and out and had a Heart of Gold. She will be forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Vistoso Funeral Home,
2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Oro Valley, AZ 85755 from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. A Rosary will be held at 9:00 am.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in the Chapel at St. Mark
Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Rd., Oro Valley, AZ 85742 at 10:00 am.
