Celia Horwood, 67, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on November 11, 2019. She was born in Brampton, Ontario, Canada on July 19, 1952. Celia obtained an Associate Degree in Dance from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada in 1974. Upon graduation, Celia was a dance instructor in her local community. Later she worked at The Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Toronto, Canada as a fundraiser to college bursaries. In addition, she was involved in assisting students with special needs.
She married Michael S. Horwood on August 16, 1974. Together they have two children, Joshua (40), and Jacob (38). In addition to Tucson, they resided in Malton and Brampton, Ontario; and Cowley, Alberta.
She was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelist in Oro Valley. Celia was a sponsor of candidates and catechumens for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (RCIA program) at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Brampton, Ontario. Celia delighted in attending amusement parks and was a member of The American Coaster Enthusiasts and The European Coaster Club. Celia loved fine dining and wine, as well as cooking. As a fitness and health enthusiast, she also enjoyed hiking, and bicycling. Celia was an avid concert-goer and listened to many types of music (classical, opera, ballet, jazz, bluegrass). One of her most notable accomplishments is the biography of her father, Canadian landscape painter, Tom Roberts.
Celia was an adoring mother, devoted wife, and a loving grandmother. There are many traits that she possessed which include her affection for others, generosity, her open and friendly personality and offbeat sense of humor, having the ability to get people to express themselves, as well as having an inquisitive nature. Celia and her glowing smile will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her sons Joshua Thomas Horwood and Jacob Louis Horwood and her loving husband of 45 years Michael Stephen Horwood (72), her grandson Eliot Michael Horwood (7) and as well as her sister Jane Grenville Ridley. Celia is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Keith Roberts and Mary Regina Quigley.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Oro Valley Hospital, Northwest Medical Center, St. Mary's Hospital, and the Neurological ICU Wing at Banner University Medical Center.
There will be a funeral Mass at St. Mark Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, AZ on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to San Xavier del Bac Mission (sanxaviermission.org).
