Every Christmas since 2017, St Mark's Catholic Daughters of the Americas(CDA), Court #2709, have been providing Christmas stockings filled with personal items to the St. Francis Men's Shelter located at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fort Lowell in Tucson.
Due to the pandemic, the shelter is closed, but our efforts this year supported the Food Pantry at St. Francis Shelter that serves the community. Our generous members donated 50 bags of non-perishable food items, totaling approximately 700 pounds of food, and three large bags of toilet paper.
The Food Pantry at St. Francis Shelter is open to the community every Wednesday from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Carl, the director, and Matt, who oversees the Food Pantry were very grateful to our Catholic Daughters for their donations. As our member Chair for this event stated,
“I am always very moved by the dedication and enthusiasm of Carl and his staff especially after having to close the Thrift Store and his Shelter during COVID. His devotion to the poor and homeless is amazing and we leave there knowing that God's mission on earth is being carried on. How wonderful and grateful our CDA members are to be a part of this ministry.”
