People with special needs resulting from physical, emotional, mental, or cognitive conditions are all around us in society, at school, at work, and in our families. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be challenging for these important members of our society to participate in liturgies due to physical and social barriers – or even family member anxiety.
Celebrating a Mass for People with Special Needs can be the first of many steps toward integrating them into regular weekly or even daily Mass – and more deeply into all of the sacraments and other aspects of parish life. Putting our faith into action, St. Mark the Evangelist Parish and the Knights of Columbus Council #13272 are hosting this special Mass and with hopes to spread the message that all of God’s children are welcome under the parish roof and that every person is an integral part of the parish family.
If you have special needs and do not ordinarily attend Mass, or, if you would like to bring a relative or friend with special needs to this Mass, please know that you're invited and encouraged to join! This is an inclusive opportunity to re-engage with one’s faith and return to regular Mass attendance. All are welcome!
Please provide information on any special talents or interests you or your companion may have, such as singing in the choir or serving as a reader, altar server, or Eucharistic minister. This service is all about participation. People with special needs are invited to perform the functions of the Mass in as many roles as possible. Please contact specialneeds@stmarkov.com to find out how to participate.
