Richard V. Chavez, resident of Oro Valley, Arizona passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024 at the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital at the age of 87. He was born on March 3, 1937 in Winslow Arizona, the fifth of thirteen children of Ysidro and Amada Chavez. Richard was a 1956 graduate of Winslow High School, an Army Veteran and a Proud American Patriot. Richard married Lorenza Ayala on December 2, 1961 in Flagstaff, Arizona. Richard worked for the United States Postal Service in Holbrook, Arizona for 29 years where he served as a Postal Clerk, Postal Supervision and the American Postal Union Representative for Northern Arizona. He retired in 1992. Spending time with family and friends was his joy, rarely missing an opportunity to tell them a story. He was a proud Grandparent who seldom missed his grandchildren’s sporting events and school functions. Richard loved all types of music, a good Cowboy or Science Fiction movie, Fox News and was a supporter of Donald Trump. Richard’s greatest attributes were his optimism, gratefulness and ability to make anyone smile with his charm and charisma, staying that way until the very end. Richard is survived by his wife Lorenza, children Richard Chavez, Linda Chavez and Nora Brack (Robert), grandchildren Hesper Chavez, Hailey Chavez-Brack, Anthony Brack and great grandchild Evan Ponce.
Family and friends are invited to honor the life of this special man. Funeral Mass is at St. Mark Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, Arizona, July 8th at 9:45 am. Rosary will be held before Mass at 9:15 am. The funeral Reception will be held at El Molinito Restaurant, 10180 N. Oracle Road following the Committal Service at Veterans Memorial Cemetery Marana.
