Col Mark Thomas Cenac, MD age 94, went to be with our Lord on January 4,2022. He was born October 19, 1927, in Little Rock, Arkansas to James Willis Cenac and Mary Helen Cenac (nee Snell) who preceded him in death. Also preceding him was 1st wife Daisy Drucilla Smith; sons, Mark T. Cenac, Jr., Sausalito, CA; Stephen James Cenac, Tucson, AZ; David Michael Cenac, Tucson, AZ; grandson, Michael A. Cenac, Tucson, AZ; and daughter-in-law, Meri Brien-Cenac, Tucson, AZ. Also, brother, James Cenac, Little Rock, AR and sister, Mary C. Bean (nee Cenac), St. Louis, MO. Mark graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1949. At that time, he joined the US Army and was stationed at Gorgas Army Hospital, Panama for Internship and Residency in General Surgery. He was also stationed at Ft. Sam in San Antonio, TX: West Point, NY: Surgeon General’s Office as Assistant Chief Surgical Consultant, Washington, DC: 8th Log Command, Livorno, Italy; Munson Army Hospital, Ft. Leavenworth, KS; MASH Commander 18th Surg, Pleiku, Vietnam; Chief of Surgery Munson Army Hospital, Ft. Leavenworth. He then retired with 21+ years’ service with the rank of Colonel. Following his retirement, was a partner with the Physician’s Clinic, Leavenworth, KS for 17 years.
Mark and Nancy moved from Leavenworth, KS to Bisbee, AZ in 1987 and moved to Oro Valley, AZ (Tucson) in 2001 to be closer to children and grandchildren. They were active members of both St. Patrick’s in Bisbee and St. Mark Catholic Church in Oro Valley. In both places they were also active in the adult choir.
Mark (lovingly known as Tom by family and friends) enjoyed tennis, canoeing and sailing, hiking and sculpting in both metal and wood. He also very much enjoyed his family especially grandchildren, great-grandsons, nieces, and nephews. He loved to sit in the sun in Arizona.
Surviving at the home is spouse, Nancy Lynn Cenac (nee, Shields) married May 19, 1979. Also, daughter, Rebecca Ann Norton (nee Cenac) (Michael) Tucson, AZ; son, Daniel Gordon Cenac of Tucson, AZ; Also 5 grandchildren, Jennifer A. Norton, Phoenix, AZ; ; Gabriel J. Cenac, (Tricia) Marana, AZ, Thomas Levi Cenac, Huston TX; Stephanie N Brauer (nee Norton) (Alexander), Tucson, AZ; and Margo J. Cenac, Tucson, AZ and 2 great-grandsons, Gage and Mason Cenac.
A funeral Mass and celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, AZ. 85742.
