Virginia “Ginny” Ann (Lugo) Weiland, 83, of Tucson, AZ, passed away July 17, 2021 at her home in Marana. She was born August 26, 1938 in New York City to the late Joseph Lugo and the late Wilhelmina Lugo. She attended Corpus Christi Church as well as Corpus Christi Parish School in New York City. She, her parents, and older brother Joseph moved to New Jersey in 1948. Ginny graduated from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick, NJ in 1955. Afterward, she worked for Diehl Manufacturing in Manville, NJ. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Edward “Ed” Weiland, and they were married on June 10, 1961. They started a family right away, and they raised five children in NJ.
Ginny was well known for her strong faith in God, her devotion to her family, her contagious laugh, and her love of gardening and landscaping. She spent countless hours planting and cultivating many varieties of flowers, bushes, and trees in her homes in Piscataway, NJ and Tucson, AZ. Everyone admired Ginny’s beautiful landscape designs, and one of her nieces even got married in Ginny and Ed’s yard in New Jersey. She loved dogs, and she also was the biggest New York Yankees fan you would meet; she never missed watching a game, and she cheered them on as long as she was physically able. She loved music and was a great accordion player.
Ginny is remembered fondly by family, friends, and neighbors as a kind, loving person with a heart of gold. In tough times she would always pray, and she encouraged others to do the same. She was always willing to help family and friends in need. She and Ed attended St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Oro Valley, AZ.
Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Edward Weiland; their children Christopher Weiland (wife Jill Remmler), Laura Skwatt (husband Joe), Andrew Weiland (wife Carolyn), Jill Weiland (James Smith), and Matthew Weiland; ten grandchildren: Jessica Weiland (Jeremy Abraham), John Sorrentino, Corey Riccardi, Taylor Craig (husband Cameron), Michael Sorrentino, Juliana Metzger (husband Jesse), Bethany Weiland, Madyson Skwatt, Amelia Weiland, and Matthew Weiland; five great-grandchildren: Lexi Anne Weiland, Harper Abraham, Case Craig, Tinsley Abraham, and Ada Craig; and Ginny’s brother, Rev. Joseph W. Lugo, Priest of the Diocese of Paterson, NJ.
