Evalyn was born on September 3, 1925 in Kansas City, Kansas to Eva and J. D. Parsons. She was at home when she passed peacefully into eternity on July 12, 2017 to be with her Lord whom she met when she was a teenager.
In 1949, Ev met Edward in his own living room when she came home from her job as camp nurse with Ed’s sister Pat. It was only a matter of days before they both knew they had met their life’s mate. They married on September 9, 1950 and lived for a short time in Terre Haute, Indiana before moving to Danville, Illinois to start a business. They worked together at Woodley’s for Flowers, the flower shop they started, until they retired to Fountain Hills, AZ in 1986. They moved to Marana, AZ in 1999 where they have lived ever since.
Ed describes his wife as feisty, accomplished, and competent. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have greatly benefitted from her servant’s heart. Ev graduated from Indiana University with her nursing degree in 1946. She practiced as an RN in both Indiana and Illinois in the maternity ward helping deliver countless babies until her responsibilities in the flower shop caused her to lay that aside.
After retirement, she volunteered at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center in Scottsdale, AZ. She enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, but especially knitting which she did all of her life. She knitted baby caps for newborns at the Medical Center, sweaters for family members, and blankets for many people.
Ev is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ed; five children, Evalyn L. Woodley, Therese Carpenter (Dennis), Edward Woodley Jr. (Debbie), Elizabeth Walsh (Jim), Michael Woodley (Teresa); eighteen grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was a fantastic wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loyal friend to those who knew her.
Although all who knew her, including her family, cherished friends, and care givers, will miss her greatly, we are celebrating her life. On Tuesday, July 18 beginning at 9:45 is the Prelude, Eulogy at 10:15 with a funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 am all to be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Rd, Oro Valley, Az. 85737.
