Maurice Joseph Boyle passed away peacefully at his home in Marana, Arizona with family at his side.
Maurice was born on March 8, 1933 in Bellingham Washington, where he also spent his childhood on the family farm. In 1952 Maurice received an “invitation” from Uncle Sam to come work for him. Maurice and his family moved many times during his career in the military. Washington, California and even five years overseas in England. His first twenty years in the Air Force were spent working on the flight systems as a control technician. He served in the Air Force for the next twenty-five years.
In 1972, after many hours of schooling in England, Scotland and the United States, Maurice became a Drug and Alcohol counselor for the Air Force. Maurice retired from the military in 1977. Just before his death he celebrated his 49th year of sobriety. After his military service Maurice continued his work as a drug and alcohol counselor and traveled all over to teach and lecture about the dangers of substance abuse. During his career he received well over two hundred awards and accommodations for his work in both the military and private sector, including two Air Force Accommodation Medals and the very first “Anglo-American” award for his work with the British people in the Drug and Alcohol field. Maurice helped hundreds of individuals and families during his career.
In 1959 he met the love of his life, Joyce J. Johnson. They married two weeks after their first date and in 2019 they celebrated their sixtieth anniversary. In 1990 Maurice and Joyce retired to Arizona to be closer to their children. Maurice was a man of deep faith who loved his God, family and country. He was a true patriot. He will be remembered for his generosity and great sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce Boyle, his parents Robert and Emeline Boyle and his brother William Boyle. He is survived by his brother, Michael Boyle, his four children, Robert Boyle (Kelly), Terence Boyle (Elmira), Patricia Waldman (Steve), Marie Anderson (Michael), thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, AZ on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
Maurice will be laid to rest in the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery 15950 N. Luckett Road, Marana, Arizona 85653 on September 27, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
