Maria Edvige “Edy” Borella, age 83 was called to be with the Lord on February 10, 2019. She was born on October 12, 1935 in Gozzano, Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Italo Borella, her sister Marcella and her brother Silvio. She is survived by her daughter, Daniela Borella, granddaughters Tessa and Selena, her son Carlo Alberto Borella, and daughter-in-law Laura.
Edy was a loving mother and housewife. She and Italo moved to Tucson in the mid-90s to be close to their grandchildren. They both helped their children Daniela and Carlo to open and operate restaurants in Tucson. Edy took her first official job as chef of Caffe Torino in 2000 at the age of 65. She was able to bring her cooking talents from home and produce authentic Italian dishes for many Oro Valley residents.
Edy’s personality was such that many people would go the kitchen just to talk to her and leave with a little piece of Italy in their mind. Her recipes and passion for cooking are still alive today at Caffe Torino with her daughter Daniela carrying on the tradition. Edy and Italo loved to travel. They visited Kenya many times and traveled throughout Europe and later in life they enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii.
