Jim Cartin, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 5, 2019. He was the fourth child born to James Sr. and Marie Cartin on August 17, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA.
Jim was married to Theresa M. Cartin in 1966. He leaves behind his wife, Terri, and children: Denise and husband Michael, Jimmy and wife Rebecca, Brian, Sean, and Matthew and wife Julie. Jim is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Michael and wife Erin, Jessica and husband Mason, Alex, Rhiannon, Althea, Ava, Ashton, Adalyn, Charlotte, Isabella, and Lucy; 3 great-grandchildren: Owen, Savannah, and Hunter; and 5 siblings: Mary, Patricia (deceased), Margaret, Joseph, and Geraldine.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964-66. After completing his service, he began his life-long career in the food industry. Jim originally owned his own supermarket and later transitioned into the wholesale and distribution sector of the industry, where he completed his career as a senior vice president of Associated Wholesalers Inc. During his career, he also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Albright University in Reading, PA.
Jim was passionate about helping the underserved in our community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked closely with Sr. Jose’s Women’s Shelter, Interfaith Community Services, Casa de los Niños, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through the United Way.
Jim loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his extended family and friends. His passions also included golf and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. Jim’s wonderful, caring personality and positive outlook influenced people to strive to be better. He faced his illness and death with courage and unwavering faith. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, and friends.
A funeral Mass will be held at 3:30 pm. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, AZ. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Casa De La Luz Foundation, 7740 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85704 (
