Barbara Jean (Mitchell) Hibner went to the arms of God on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at the age of 90. A life-long educator and student, she was also a treasured daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmommy. Barbara began her life in Muncie, Indiana on September 3, 1930.
She graduated from St. Mary’s College as a teacher and social worker. Her career then took her to Wisconsin, where she met and began her life with her husband, Tom, on April 19, 1969. Their union brought along two sons, Eric and Jason, a move to Tucson, and fifty years of love. Barbara passed from full and independent life to a peaceful death, in her sleep at home, and is now in the company of her parents, husband, and son, Eric.
She is survived by her son, Jason (Gayle) Hibner, and her grandchildren Dustin, Wyatt, and Emily. Her last years were spent making and sharing cards with friends and family, convening with her book club, and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by many who knew and loved her, but the blessing of her life will not be forgotten.
A celebration of life will be officiated by Barbara’s brother-in-law, Father Cyprian Hibner at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 2727 W. Tangerine Road, Oro Valley, AZ.
A private, family burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Vincent de Paul, an organization that was dear to her heart and to which she donated her time.
