We are to be like the worthy wife, faithfully walking in the “fear of the Lord”—in reverence, awe, and thanksgiving for His marvelous gifts. This is the beginning of wisdom (see Acts 9:31; Proverbs 1:7). This is not the “fear” of the useless servant, a slave cowering before a cruel master. Though the good servants in today’s story were given different numbers of talents, each “doubled” the investment and received greater responsibilities and a share of the master’s joy. To everyone who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”For by the grace given to me I bid every one among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith which God has assigned him… he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
