Did you know that, according to the 2015 American Community Survey (US Census) within the City of Tucson one in four residents live in poverty and that the Tucson/Pima Country metro area now has the highest poverty rate in the nation—18.9% with a child poverty rate of 28.3%?
Many of our neighbors, especially children, are struggling and suffering the short and long term effects of poverty.
What are the consequences of living in poverty?
What is their impact on families? What is the root cause?
What can we do to help families move to self-sufficiency?
What kind of training, personal empowerment, and advocacy are necessary to reduce poverty effectively?
How do we leverage the untapped potential of those living in poverty and give a seat at the table to all members of our community?
